twice a day. Today I was looking closely, with a flashlight, and saw
something that made my stomach drop: a tiny white creature scuttling
along the surface of my Cuaba Tradicionale. I took the cigar out for a

After you have bagged and frozen the cigars, don't forget to disinfect the
humidor. The little buggers can lurk in there, just waiting to get back to
lunch ...
Hatching, BTW, is not merely a matter of temperature; I suggest you check
humidity. This is far from scientific, but when I reduced humidity in my

Yes and no.

So apparently all cuban cigars destined for export are frozen.
The original poster's beetles could originate from pre-2006 cuban
cigars, non-export cuban cigars or from non-cuban cigars.

I think Alex is correct. Certainly, if they are frozen in Cuba as claimed in
the article it probably eliminates the live bugs from the cigars. However,
if they were infested before being frozen, they would still have eaten holes

Or, which I consider not entirely improbable, they cut corners with the
freezing process (perhaps to save money). If the temperatures are not low
enough for long enough, the larvae will survive to eat another day.
Ironically, nicotine itself is a pesticide ....

My cigars have emerged from their deep freeze and are now resting in
my brand new, properly sealed and seasoned humidor. Without the
stogies, it was maintaining 70/70, so hopefully I'll be ok from now
