Henry Weinhards (sp?) is my pick.
Great, but too many calories.
Now, if I could just find Diet Scotch...

I have to second the other suggestions (Mug, IBC, and Stewarts). But IMO you
can't beat Barq's. They're now part of one of the big soda company's brands,
but they're still pretty good and more widely available. It's one of the
only diet root beers that is enjoyable.

I think Skagit Brewery has a pretty good root beer. I'll pick some up for
you next time I'm in.

I've made root beer a couple times (using my homebrewing
set up.) It can be made from scratch or it can be made
very simply with extract (which most homebrew stores carry.)
The extract comes in a 2-ounce bottle and will make
4 gallons of root beer. And it's darn good.
